Computer Engineering

Vision

Achieve academic excellence by imparting education in computing and providing exposure to research to create intellectual professionals and explore global opportunities.

Mission

To impart learning by educating students with conceptual knowledge, hands-on practices using Free and Open-Source Software and tools, competency skills, social awareness, thereby igniting young minds for innovative thinking, professional expertise, and multidisciplinary research.

About Department

The Department of Computer Engineering was established in 1983 with the intent to provide quality education to the young aspirants. The department is pioneer in providing education in Computer Engineering among self financed institutes in Maharashtra. A team of 52 teaching and 10 technical staff members under the leadership of Dr. Geetanjali V. Kale unanimously harnesses its potential in all aspects to take the department to greater heights. The department had intake of 60 in 1983 and now the current intake for the undergraduate program is 240. The department has received approval from AICTE to conduct UG program for working professionals with 60 intake from A.Y. 2024-25. The Postgraduate (PG) program in Computer Engineering was started in 2000 with a student intake of 25 and PG in Data Science with an intake of 24 from 2020. Subsequently in 2013, intake is increased to 49 with addition of second division of 24 students. In 2020, the second division of 24 students is converted into PG in Data Science. From A.Y. 2022-23, both Data Science and Computer Engineering PG programs has intake of 12 students each. The department has a Ph.D. research centre, since 2012. All the UG, PG and Ph.D. programs are affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU).

Students are regularly placed in top MNCs with an average package of 13.5 LPA. Our students are pursuing higher education in top universities (Indian as well as Foreign). The department encourages students to participate in various National and International level competitions, project exhibitions, hackathons, sports events and extra-curricular activities. Students have won awards in various competitions including significant achievements in Smart India Hackathon. Department is also assisting students in getting internships at niche companies with pre-placement offers.

  1. Engineering Concepts : To prepare individuals with mathematical, scientific, and engineering fundamentals to succeed in the technical profession as an Industry Professional, Entrepreneur or Researcher and excel in higher educational programmes.
  2. Computing Competency: To inculcate core competence in the field of Computer Engineering to think, innovate, analyze, formulate, and solve engineering problems.
  3. Expertise in technologies and tools : To provide hands-on experience on design and programming techniques, technologies and tools with focus on Free and Open-Source Systems.
  4. Leadership and Teamwork : To develop soft-skills and competing skills leading to leadership and team-work in technical, co-curricular and extra-curricular domains.
  5. Social Awareness : To nurture social awareness of the individuals with democratic values, kindness, respect to others and ethically responsible behavior.
  1. Modeling Software Systems and Applications :Design, model, program and test software systems and applications in varying domains including Networks, Embedded systems, Advance storage management systems and Web technologies.
  2. Advance programming and FOSS tools :Implement algorithmic techniques by virtue of advanced programming skill set and Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) tools.
    1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science,
      engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the
      solution of complex engineering problems.
    2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
    3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
    4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
    5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
    6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning in formed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
    7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
    8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
    9. Individual and teamwork: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
    10. Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
    11. Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
    12. Lifelong learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.
